About This Program

Trade policies are designed to govern the exchange of goods and services across borders, and when crafted and implemented effectively, they can have a significant impact on a nation's economic growth and development. This course is aimed at increasing the knowledge of government officials, private sector managers, and civil society campaigners, whose work on trade policy has growing relevance as globalization and regional trade pacts continue to grow. Understanding the role of governments in shaping international markets is critical to effectively injecting the views of your department, private firm, or civil society organization into policy formulation. Managing the complexities of global trade related to legal statutes, regulations, rules, tariffs, and other government or agency related elements is a tough balancing act that needs the right knowledge and approach. The module will use teaching methods including interactive lectures, extracts from already-negotiated texts, and public policy inputs, including but not limited to: Kenya UK Economic Partnership Agreement, African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), EU-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement Act.
